Basic Molecular course
In the past year, 2024, we embarked on a remarkable journey of training in Basic Molecular Biology. It all started in October 2023 at Kenyatta University in Kenya. Our mission was simple yet impactful: to empower educators through a Training of Trainers (ToT) model. We wanted to ensure that the knowledge would ripple out, reaching more people through the trainers we educated.
The journey continued in March 2024, as we moved to Ethiopia, where Haramaya University and Addis Ababa University opened their doors to our program. Just a month later, in April 2024, we found ourselves in Uganda, training at Muni University and Makerere University.
At each university, we did not just stop at training the trainers. In the rollout model, the educators were encouraged to share their knowledge with their own students. And the results were incredible. So far, more than 180 participants have benefited from our hands-on training in Basic Molecular Biology (BMC).
What makes this training particularly special is its practicality. The lab manuals we used rely on affordable reagents. This means that even after our trainers return to their own classrooms, they can easily continue to educate their students without worrying about high costs. This approach not only equips the trainers with valuable skills but also significantly boosts the capacity of their trainees, creating a lasting impact in the field of molecular biology.
But! our mission does not end here. Looking ahead, we are excited to announce that an Advanced Molecular Biology course is on the horizon, set to be delivered later this year, 2024.
