Outcome Present with Power

Public speaking can be a challenge for many scientists. Many of us have learned the hard way, and the process can be very challenging and painful. Learning the hard way while anyone is live on stage presenting can be very stressful too! We may never master a public presentation just because we have not been aware of the steps and elements you need to consider to grab the audience’s attention, unfold a story successfully and deliver a message that the public will understand and remember. We are proud to say that the course’ Present with Power’ organized by VIB-IPBO with the facilitators of The Floor is Yours for training 19 African women researchers has been a great success. The course’s objectives were to share with our fellows the best tips and strategies to help them present their research with impact, help them to structure their message throughout their talks and engage with their audience confidently. In the feedback collected after the course, 72,2% of our participants said that this was the first time ey attended specific training on how to present in public. All of them agreed that this was a relevant course for their career development and feel better equipped to give a public presentation after the Present with Power online course. Moreover, all the participants would recommend the course to other fellows.

When we asked our participants to explain how they felt better equipped to present in public after this training, they shared that now they have a better understanding of how to engage their audiences and how to craft their messages to grab the public’s attention, among others. Ultimately our fellows feel that this training has given them more confidence to present. Arent’ this good news?

The best part of the story is that our trainees are actively looking at opportunities to put all the tools and skills they have developed into practice, whether in an international conference, during their lectures, their Ph.D. defenses, or to share their knowledge with other colleagues. Congratulations to all our participants for their upcoming successes.

At VIB-IPBO we are looking forward to receiving the next cohort of women researchers willing to learn and experience first-hand how to give a ‘Presentation with Power’!
