Musa Kwehangana

Kwehangana Musa is a Biosafety Officer at the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology, Uganda. He is a Biotechnologist and a Lawyer by training. His main responsibilities include coordination of the implementation of the National Biosafety Framework as well as administering the biosafety regulatory system involving risk assessment of GM organisms, biosafety monitoring and inspections and ensuring enforcement of the national biosafety guidelines. He also serves as the Secretary of the National Biosafety Committee of the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology. He’s the National Contact Person for the Competent National Authority for the Cartagena Protocol in Uganda.  Serves also as a Contact Person for the FAO GM Foods Platform.

Musa is also a Member of the National Codex Committee of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards and a Member of the National Biodiversity Committee of the National Environment Management Authority of Uganda. He is a Certified Trainer of the African CDC Framework for Certification of High and Maximum Containment Facilities. He represented Uganda during the recent Conference of Parties Fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) on areas of synthetic biology and risk assessment. He is also a member of Friends of the Chairperson for the Biological Weapons Convention on Science and Technology Mechanism. He has a wide experience in policy advisory for the governance of Science, Technology, and Innovation (ST&I) generally and Biotechnology Development specifically.
